Does anyone know a good cough remedy?

Apologies for not posting recently...LucyOBrien blog has been laid up with flu and a hacking cough. Normal services will be resumed as soon as possible. In the meantime, does anyone have a good cough remedy?

  1. oh boooo :( hot water honey and lemon is the old fashioned remedy, add whiskey for warmth.

Was hoping for your thoughts on Mercury (PJ Harvey one of my PhD case studies, but v strong list this year I think and unlikely she'll win twice)

  2. Thank you mamanova, I will definitely try the old-fashioned remedy.

And will definitely post on the Mercury...when I'm feeling a bit more 'with' it. PJ Harvey is a remarkable woman - huge respect for hanging on in there, consistently recording intelligent, innovative albums, and not feeling she has to pretty herself up to 'compete' with younger artists or return to her old '90s stuff in a nostalgia-fest.

    thanks for your comment,

  3. Sorry to her you're poorly. I tend to find gargling with dispersal aspirin, peppermint tea with lemon and honey, Ricola cough sweets, vitamin C tablets and dead strong Multivitamin tablets work... I usually succumb to at least two strains of freshers flu a year, and those tend to be the mainstays... The only problem with the dispersal aspirin one is that if your throat is really inflamed it results in a tendency to involuntarily spray the bathroom mirror/wall, but that aside, is strangely effective...

I have blogged about the Mercury on the F-Word blog, but Wears The Trousers have gone one better, so have mainly blogged on that instead.

  4. thanks Cazz. Some brilliant suggestions there. If they don't shift it, nothing will! Maybe I need a blast of something at full volume. Beyonce's 'Run The World (Girls)' should clear the lungs.

    will check out the blogs....

  5. Poor Lucy! Try Friar's Balsam- you get it from the chemists. It's very old-fashioned (and cheap). You pour boiling water on it and inhale; it smells nice.
Apparently they used to use it in hospitals to clear people's tubes after a general anaesthetic.
    It works miracles.

  6. Sometimes, cough is an indication of another serious condition. If you notice the following symptoms along with your cough, make sure you go to a medical doctor right away. Green or blood stained phlegm comes out when you cough, swelling calf, wheezing, croup cough, pain in the chest, sweating and fever, sudden drop of weight, coarse voice with chronic coughing, worsening smoker’s cough, vomiting. With these serious symptoms, you have to be checked by a health expert and provide you with cough home remedy at once.
